What Am I Going To Do For Winter Break?

I can’t believe there are only three more days until winter break! I also can’t believe I FINALLY managed to convince my parents to go to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando. We haven’t been there in more than seven years! My brother has never been there. We wanted to wait until he was old enough to actually enjoy it. Now that he’s six and can go on most of the rides, and I may or may not have been literally begging my parents to go there the second our plane touched Virginia land last time we went, I think we will all enjoy it (especially me).

I have been reading up on both parks and I can’t wait to experience the thrilling fear of riding on Mount Everest, or the scares of Lord Voldemort in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I have read all the Harry Potter books and I really want to live through everything that Harry did. Based on what I have seen, the people who created the park did an amazing job recreating everything.

Even though Disney World is kind of babyish, I still want to go. In just two short years, I will be a teenager. I want to get as many childhood memories as possible before that happens.

You know one of the best parts about going to Orlando? I get to miss two days of school after winter break! The way we booked the trip, we won’t be back until January fifth, which is a the first Tuesday after winter break ends. It will be awesome and I can’t wait!

An Open Letter from Rain

Dear Anshu,

I’m extremely sorry that I have caused so much trouble. On Sunday, I lost a bet to the sun and she said I have to fall for three whole days! Sometimes, my friend, the wind, likes to prank me, especially in the winter. As I fall, he catches me gently in his arms, and with one powerful blow, I find myself crystallizing. Depending on his patterns, I can become snow, sleet, or hail. Now that I think about it, he’s not really a friend.

You know what? I have a question for you. Why don’t you like me? I can hear a lot of things said in the rain, and I have heard something from you and your friends that interested me. You were talking about how nice it feels that the rain has finally cooled things down. You were glad that you wouldn’t have to do cardio in P. E. in the sticky, sweltering, heat. You were overjoyed that I swooped in and saved the day. I was under the impression that you liked the way I fell.

I provide supplements and energy for plants. You wouldn’t even be alive if it weren’t for me. I have been around for billions of years. I have grown pretty wise. I think this generation of middle schoolers should learn to appreciate nature and the world without gadgets and technology. For all I know, the world as we know it will be obliterated in just five decades! Horror will fall among us and destroy life as we know it. I, for one, think you should stop thinking about yourself and start thinking about nature and how the birds come up every morning and how leaves sway in the trees. I really hope this letter will change your mind about our top priorities.

Sincerely,

Rain

This open letter was a response to Anshu’s Open Letter to me.
